Finishing Touches for the Body

Roll Bar Grommets

[SD] Regarding the Finish Line bezals: "I got the bezels today and the fit and finish is nothing short of perfect! If anyone gets a set give me a yell, I've got some tips for the install that will help make life easier."

Finish Line's Roll Bar Bezels

[RB] "And just got the 2" roll bar trim rings from Finish Line. They are well engineered and nicely made.

The roll bars were larger. I found that the aluminum metal ring could be easily fit to the body by adjusting it - bending it - a little. Also it's held in place with screws. So you have to drill small holes in to bolt it down. Now if Finish Line pre fitted them you could only mount them to the car one way - the bolts would have to be placed where Finish Line "said" or placed the holes. I liked the idea of turning the ring till I lined the holes up where I wanted them. Then I could bend them slightly to fit the ring to the body."

Hood Hinges

Can you retro fit hood hinges?

[RD] "The mechanics won't affect the paint, the clamping of the "big horseshoe" part is where you will need to be careful. I would recommend lots (8-12) spring loaded clamps, they look like big alligator clips. Use something broad and soft as a pad under the clamps to distribute the load. Course fabric is probably a bad idea, it might print into the paint.

You also will need to be careful not to drop stuff on the painted surfaces while you work around it. Don't be in a hurry, make sure to use lots of pad around the fender/front hood opening area. The danger is in the number of times you need to fit and remove the hood."

[WC] "You will have to mess w/ the horseshoe, tweaking and bending to get it to lay flat on the underside of the hood. Having the engine out will be a bonus, since you can work from under the hood. If you have (or know someone who has) a mig welder, you can take a shortcut to the ON/OFF/ON/OFF/ON/OFF stuff. Cut the triangle pads off the arms and bolt them to the hood with only one washer per corner. Then center the hood in the opening, swing up the hinge arms and tack weld to the triangle pads. Remove hinge and finish welding arms. No stacks of washers and only about 45 minutes to complete!!"

[dino] "Just put my hood back on today after getting everything primered....PIA and it still needs to be adjusted!!!! I WOULD NOT try this if you have a really good paint job unless you have a bunch of people helping and cover everything with thick carpet!!!"

[ME] "I make just what you are looking for and more. Please check out my web page for more details. By the way, I am a contributing member of this forum. Thanks Mike FFR1234http://people.ne.mediaone.net/katam25/index.htm"

Emblems:

[WC] "How are you fellows mounting your emblems. Do I need the speed nuts, or can I just use a dab of silicone under the emblem?"

[Ne] "Silicone behind the emblem and on the posts works great. The cool thing is when the old chicken farmer looks at your car and says "Boy, take those off or I'll sue your chicken a$$." You can remove them and not have any paint damage!"

[D] "I used those body clip gismoes, they are thin pieces of spring steel that tighten as you press them on to a stud."

[WP] "I used some thin 3M body side molding tap and ground off the pins. Works great, swing by a friendly body shop and they might just give you 6"."

[dw] "I ran a 6-32 thread on the posts and used a stop nut behind them."

"if you need a source for those little spring nuts, Lowe's has a selection of them"

[dg] "Ace hardware has those little spring nuts"

[Ad] "As I understand it the badges are:
Front: 11.5" measured from the nose.
rear : 18.5" measured from the rear edge of the trunk.
side : 1 5/8" above centre of louvre window
"
