Instead of flaring the brake lines, you can buy pre-flared brake lines from NAPA. Then you just have to bend them. Here's the part numbers you will need:

Courtney, Chad [c-courtney@ti.com] - "I'm now putting in the brake lines, I spent some frustrating time trying to double flare the lines with a double flaring tool borrowed from Autozone's rent a tools program. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with it. Go to Napa and spend about $25 on pre-flared 3/16" lines w/ 3/8-24 connectors, and some adapters and you'll be a much happier person. Here's what you need depending on your setup. Also, I'd suggest using the tried and true method to get accurate line bends by using a wire coat hanger and bend it where you need and then use it as a model so you're not trying to bend the lines inside the frame itself where you can't get a good tubing bender.

Commonly used fitting for FFR builds are in BLUE.

Hydraulic Brake Fitting adapters can be used to adapt standard brake lines to the different size ports used in dual master cylinders. The tube O.D. is the outside diameter of the brake line. Edelmann Hydraulic Brake Fittings are zinc plated to help prevent galvanic corrosion. Adapters are also supplied to adapt standard brake lines to metric sizing for import and some late model domestic vehicles.

Question: [JJ] "The manual is not to clear as to where break lines connect to distribution block. I have only 2 connections on distribution block and 1 connection on under side of master cylinder. Could someone let me know witch one goes where."

Answers:

[JB] "The Master cylinder connection goes to the drivers side front. Rear connection on the distribution block goes to the passenger side front and the front distribution block connection goes to the rear brakes."

[DG] "Don't forget about installing a adapter in the bottom of the master cylinder for the left front brake fitting."

Rear Brake Lines

Question: [Mu] "Can anyone tell me how the Rear brake hose attaches to the Bracket.( Running standard drums) I can't seem to see how the hose is secured in the bracket. I have the Half moon clip but I'm not sure how this connects. From pictures I have seen the hose looks like it has an L piece or connector that connects to the bracket. My rear hose has the connector similar to that of the Front disk connectors. Can anyone give me directions?"

Comments:

[Wade] "I routed mine so that the metal brake line ends up pointing down towards the Mustang bracket. There is an adapter the fits between the brake line and the brake hose. This adapter fits up through the Mustang bracket, and is held in place with the same type of spring clip that you use on the fronts. The rear brake hose then screws up into the adapter from the bottom."

[Dm] "On my '87 the L shaped bracket has two holes on one side that are the bracket mounting holes that I used to attach the bracket to the chassis. On the other leg is a much larger hole that has serrations or what look like gear teeth on the interior circumference. These mate up with similar serrations that are on the end of the hose and keep the hose from twisting. Once the bracket is mounted you insert the hose from the underside of the bracket and align the serrations or teeth while pushing the hose upwards. Once the teeth are aligned, the hose will move upwards about 1/8 of an inch exposing a slot around the circumference of the hose fitting that is just above the top surface of the L bracket. The half moon clip or circlip is slid into the slot, thus locking the hose to the L shaped bracket."

Jeep Master Cylinder Installation References

To install the 1984 Jeep Cherokee MC (Manual brakes) you need the following adapters:

T-Fitting to hook up the front brakes: Edelmann #130333
Rear brake line adapter to the MC: Edelmann #258340
Front brake line MC adapter: Edelmann #258340 might work, but it did not work for me because the tread was not long enough. For the front, you need to find a 3/16" female to 1/4" male with a bubble flare turned in. It may be the Edelmann #272340 but you need to check your MC.

You also need one 3/16" double flare line, maybe 8" long to come out of the MC to go to the front brake T.

[RO] "We use the edelman 121034 fittings for a lot of things on the car. One of them is it goes right into the MC without any adaptors. This is the same fitting that goes into the front brakes without adaptors and the rear lines on the IRS without adaptors. Hope this helps. Cheers Richard."
