Clutch Quadrant Information:
[WD] "If it's Forte's part (that's what I
have) it's relatively easy to install. Remove all the old quadrant
stuff off the clutch pedal post. This includes all the plastic
fantastic stuff, clips, etc. You should have just the metal clutch
pieces left. Next take the nylon washer and place it on the clutch
pedal dowl on the arm near the firewall. Next put the quadrant on
that and secure temporarily with a cotter pin. The quadrant should
have the rounded curve toward the firewall. The round threaded piece
goes into the round firewall opening from the engine side. I don't
remember if it's threaded into the base or not but if it isn't do
that now before you install the unit. It's a tight fit so make sure
you have a plastic mallet to help seat the unit. Next take your
clutch cable and put it through the adjusting piece and connect it
to the quadrant by pulling the cable through the housing from under
the dash and sliding it into the slot on the quadrant. Once this is
done you just need to connect the other end to the clutch fork and
then thread the adjustable piece to take up any free play you have.
You need to check the "pull" from under the dash at the
cable adjusting area to make sure you get a straight pull and it
doesn't rub on the aluminum piece. This will fray your cable
prematurely. I had to re-drill the pivot hole on the quadrant to
lower it for a straight pull. You'll have to do measuring to see if
you need to do that at all."
[MC] "I highly recommend the fire wall
adjuster with the Quadrant. It wil help with the pedal adjustment."
Clutch Recommendations
[wd] "I'm using a Centerforce Dual
Friction clutch and love it! This thing is smooth, responsive and
doesn't slip! Everything can be found at Sumitt Racing. I got my
setup from Forte's www.fortesparts.com"
[Sv] "I haven't driven it yet, but the
source I used for King Cobra clutch, dowels, bolts etc. was http://www.holcomania.com"
[di] "Not on the road yet,
(matter-of-fact don't even have my car yet), but am going to use
standard aftermarkert replacement FMS-M7560A302. Should be more than
adequate. Check Summit and Forte's."
[My427] "ended up getting the King Cobra
clutch kit (FMS M-7560-C302)from Forte's - because that is where I
got my crate 351. Muscle Motors, who also advertise here, sells it
for $189 - which is a little cheaper. Also got the linkage upgrade
kit which is another $45."
[IL] "No doubt about it - use the
centerforce - they give you better clamping load with less leg
effort."
[JK] "Center Force, dual frictions WITH THE
CENTRIFUGAL weights! The faster she revs the more power it has to
hold.
Going into my 3rd autocross season with this
clutch.
Mustangs use this clutch with 400+ hp. and
slicks and pull the fronts.
Did I mention that I think its easier to push
clutch than a stock clutch?"
[5L] "I'm using the FMS heavy duty setup.
Feels great, although the pedal effort is a bit heavy."
[M3] "I'd rather slip the clutch than
break the stock T5 behind a lightly massaged 351W so I'm sticking
with the stock clutch. There are lots of good sources for the
aftermarket and FPP units."
[CH] "Have a FRPP Heavy Duty Kit(Pressure
plate, clutch plate, throwout bearing) from Holcomb MS. Works great,
not real heavy on the foot pressure. About $150 I think."
