(Mass Air Sensor)
[WC] "Here's a tip for the speed density
guys. Since there is no mass air meter, there's nothing to mount the
air filter to! I mounted mine directly to the throttle body, but
once the body was on, there was some interference. I ended up
re-using the old plastic air intake that used to connect to the
airbox. If you cut it right after the bend, just before the
corrugated part starts, it's about the right diameter to fit inside
the air filter. Works pretty slick and looks good too."

Question: [gy] "Shouldn't the
diameters of all of the intake components (hoses, MAF, throttle
body, spacer, and upper manifold) be close to the same? Upgrading
one or two parts isn't going to improve airflow unless everything is
bigger.
I see discussions about using 73mm or 77mm MAFs, but I don't see
what the benefit is. Maybe I'm missing something."
Answers:
[WP] "The MAF has some pieces in the flow
path and that is the reason for having larger MAF's than TB's."
[FK] "The MAF needs to be bigger than the
TB. If you're using a 65 or 70 mm TB, you should have a 73 or 75 mm
MAF. A bigger TB doesn't do any good if you can't get the air thru
the MAF first."
[ep] "I'm using an explorer intake /
65mmTB. I was planning on using a 80mm mass air meter from a late
model Lincoln MK8. Can the mass air meter be to big?"
[WP] "Nope, I'm running the 80mm on my
car"
