Oil - Remote Location, Coolers, and General Oil Topics 

Oil Temperatures:

Question: [BM] "My oil temp. hovers around 230-240 degrees. Is this about normal for the FFR or do I need an oil cooler?"

Answers:

[RD] "That (230-240) sounds ideal for engine oil. You want it to get hot enough to vaporize any condensed water from the crankcase. The upper limit is about 320, for Mobil 1 over 400. But there are other things in the engine that wouldn't like it that hot."

[WD] "Mine runs about 210° and in slow heavy hot traffic climbs to 230° or so. I'd say you don't need a cooler unless you want that factor and chance your oil running a bit too cool."

[JW] "That's about where my 5.0 EFI runs and that's correct. Obviously it will get hotter when you're playing. Warning: don't over-cool your oil. It works best at the correct temp."

[HD] "Where is the oil temp sender located? That has an effect on what the oil temp actually is. Location of accurate measurement is in the oil pan."
