Factory Five Racing - Under Car Exhaust

Left Side 1

In this view, you can see the Ford Racing shorty headers, which are angled forward.  These are part number M-9430-P51, which is the same as the M-9430-P50 stainless headers, but with ceramic coating.  The J pipe coming off the headers is connected to 2¼” exhaust pipe, which can be seen going under the well insulated driver’s footbox.

Left Side 2

Here you can see the underside of the driver’s footbox, and the joint between the 45degree bend and the straight pipe going into the muffler.

Left Side 3

Now you’re looking back at the inlet of the Spin Tech #7223 Cruiser Series Muffler.  The muffler is only 2¼” thick, the same as the diameter of the exhaust pipe.  The extra airspace to the floor under the driver’s seat can be clearly seen.  This extra space helps to keep the heat from getting to the passenger compartment.

Left Side 4

Here is the exhaust heading up and over the 3-link rear axle.  You can see the 2 90’s used to direct the exhaust up behind the passenger compartment and over the axle.  An exhaust hanger is attached to the band clamp at the union of the hard pipe coming into the axle and the flexible stainless pipe that is used to come out the back side.

Left Side 5

This view shows the section of flex pipe needed as you come out behind the axle.  After weaving around the shock absorber and suspension links, the flex pipe makes the transition back to hard pipe with another band clamp, attached to another exhaust hanger.

Left Side 6

This final pic of the left side exhaust shows the straight stainless section that forms the “stinger” out the back, positioned by a final exhaust hanger just before exiting under the body.

Right Side 1

The right side exhaust is done pretty much identical to the left side.  Here you can see the outlet of the Spin Tech #7223 Cruiser Series Muffler and the short piece of straight pipe before the 2 90’s going up behind the passenger compartment and over the rear axle.  Again, you can see the extra space between the muffler and the floor under the passenger’s seat.

Right Side 2

This different angle shot on the right side shows more clearly the need for the piece of stainless flex pipe to finish the path around the rear suspension.  It also shows the majority of the complete right side exhaust routing, illustrating the relative simplicity of this system.

Right Side 3

This final pic on the right side shows the stainless “stinger” from a different view.  Note the angled cut at the tip and the slightly different mounting of the last exhaust hanger.  The exhaust hanger was found to be not rigid enough and was changed to the same design as on the left side.
