May 2002 - Picture of the Month

"Ceauxbee"
Owner: Lee Tilton aka Teamfour

This replica of a 1965 Cobra 427S/C was manufactured by Factory Five Racing. The car was built over an 11 month timeframe with work being done primarily on the weekends in a one car garage. About 450 hours went into the car including body prep.

This is a good example of what a typical FFR build can become with a little hard work and dedication. Total cost of the project is under $20k.

The engine is a 1990 5.0 liter with 65k thousand original miles. The bottom end is stock with the addition of new oil pump and timing chain/gears. The top end has received some mods including: B-303 cam, FMS 1.6 roller rockers, 65mm TB, 73mm MAF, and all EGR systems removed. The stock heads were completely overhauled by Ron Sporl of offshore powerboat racing fame. His work included a complete porting and polishing, bowl blending, race prepped valve train, heads milled .001, and gasket matching the intake. Other engine mods include a Canton oil filter adapter with AN lines, ASP underdrive pulleys, MAC shorty headers held on with Stage 8 locking bolts, 2800 cfm cooling fan, FMS King Cobra clutch with BBK clutch quadrant. HP is estimated at 325.

The rear end is a stock Ford 8.8 with the stock Mustang 4 link suspension and quad shock setup. The gears are 3.55s. The front suspension is stock Mustang with Breeze automotive aluminum rack bushings. All brake components have been completely replace with new parts.

The interior has a custom vinyl tranny tunnel cover which is padded and removable. The dash boasts a complete set of Autometer Comp Ultralight gauges with the speedo and tach being 5" in diameter. Brake light and turn signals are handled by a custom built black box ala Engineer Ed.

Other notable items include:

Base color is 2002 Ford Matador Red Metallic
Stripes are Nissan QX3 3-stage Pearl White
Bodywork/primer was done by me with the final paint being handled by James Downie.
Wheels are Mustang turbines (soon to be replaced with Halibrand replicas)
with BF Goodrich 235-60-15 front and 255-60-15 rear.
Frame was completely painted using POR-15
Rollbars (two) and quickjacks were powdercoated by Louisiana Powdercoating
