November 2002 - Picture of the Month

FFR 2286 was researched for over 12 months requiring 10 months to complete. The car and engine were pro-built locally by Chris Richards of Quality Roadsters in West Brookfield, MA. Attention to detail was important to maintain that classic vintage street Cobra look… from the Smith’s gauges… the cigarette lighter and ash tray… to the ’65 Rangoon Red Paint.

With the hope of seeing some serious road racing seat time in the coming season… 2286 was fitted with a lightweight, bulletproof FMS 302 cubic inch crate engine mildly modified and fuel injected with stock crank and rods, FMS E-303 cammed with FMS/Crane 1.6 roller rockers and FMS HD valve springs/guides. The transmission is a Tremec 3550 bolted to a McCleod steel bell housing/scatter shield with a Summit drive shaft safety loop, topped with a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter. The intake, headers, J-pipes, side exit exhaust pipes and quick jacks are Air-Born aluminum ceramic-coated. The target was 325+ BHP conservatively estimated by Chris who packaged the engine modifications, custom fitting, final assembly and detailing.

Other features include a MKVIII aluminum carrier IRS with Traction-LOK and rear end gear changes of 2.73, 3.08, 3.27, 3.55 and 3.73:1 available, manual rack and pinion steering, manual 4-wheel disc brakes with Porterfield pads, 2 sets of GT-40 Halibrand 5-lug rims wearing BF Goodrich T/A’s for the street and Goodyear Eagle rain slicks for the track, aluminum front brake ducts and front/rear adjustable anti squat/sway bars custom made by Jack Rosen of Rosen Racing in Wareham, MA and a baffled aluminum 30 gallon fuel tank custom made by Joe Gouveia and Keith Silva of Nor’ East Replicas in New Bedford, MA.

An Anderson Products Engineering, 34 lb. hard-top with hard, vented side windows and Vintage Air heater/defroster compliment comfortable winter touring in this replicated vintage Street/Competition roadster drenched in Ford’s legendary 1965 Rangoon Red in solid PPG.
