Texas Mile
Anyone run the Texas mile? I'm planning on giving it a shot this March. I'll be adding a front splitter and maybe a challenge car windscreen if I can find one, other than that any suggestions guys?

No suggestions but please post here when you go. I am planning on doing the Texas mile when my car is finished and am interested in what problems you encounter.

A local to Victoria, Tx ran his FFR and only did 140+mph.
There was another guy with another kit and a BBC in it and ran 160+ or 180+mph, can't find his mph on the website. www.texasmile.net
Need someone to bring there GTM down here and run it.
If you never been to one of these events it can be very humbling.
I've only ran 180+mph out there in my 99 camaro. But in order to get to 200mph you need to be at least 900+rwhp. That is why my 99 camaro is getting re done and will go from 620rwhp to 1200rwhp. I want to hit 220 out there.
Hey Mike the offer still stand for when you finally make down here.

I'm pretty comfortable I'll hit an easy 155 + MPH, and hopefully in the 170 range. Maybe this post will get a couple of FFR guys interested. It would be great to see a full boggy GTM out there wouldn't it. Maybe I can set a base line for roadsters that we can shoot for and raise year after year. The most interesting and possibly best advice I've had was nitros for the last 3/8 mile, maybe next time. I don't want to do to much with aero, then it's not a (sorry Shelby) a Cobra roadster anymore..

Troy's (my brother) 600hp GTM is up to bodywork and paint. My 700+hp marathon build is still over a year out. Both will be doing the Texas Mile as soon as finished.

Loring afb in maine
Hi,
This is where my Turbo Busa is running this summer...
Well, it's official. Loring will be hosting a 1.5 mile LSR venue Aug 1-2
Quote from www.Landracing.com
At Least one and a half miles, ECTA rules, 7/31/09 Tech/setup, Race 8/1-2.
Decent Aerials at MapQuest ... (Loring AFB).
We are working on finalizing timing config, discount accommodations, remote shot at improving the date (very), and our long promised website.
We have excellent Safety coverage , Insurance, and commitments to participate as volunteers and racers from all over .
Bob Wanner Co-Conspirator Loring Timing Association ,Limestone, Maine
There you have it, so if you ever wanted to run with the big dogs on a long stretch of Runway (15,000 ft), then come up to Loring and try your hand at going really, really fast.

You will love it! I own a race prep shop near Pittsburgh and have built cars and crew chiefed cars for SCCA, NASA, NHRA, Trans Am, Super Vee, ARCA...... I don't know if I have ever enjoyed racing with a group as much as Land Speed Racing people. I currently maintain a car for a Mustang team that is sponsored by Ford. We run the car at The Maxton Mile and at Bonneville. The regulars say that it is the most pure form of racing. They say that the first question out of someones mouth about a racecar is "How fast will it go?". Well till you've been to Bonneville, you don't know! Or the only reason people drag race is they don't have enough room! Funny guys!
Getting a big number is harder than it looks believe me! We went 199 at Maxton with 880hp rear wheel. Took 1470hp rear wheel to go 228. Same dyno (Dyno-com) After you run the Texas mile you may just get "Salt Fever". We moved the C/PS record from 213 to 232 mph in Aug 08. 323 inch mod motor C engine class size PS is production supercharged. Not much I can tell you. We spent alot of wind tunnel time to get ft lift from 600 lbs down to 40 lbs. Just enjoy and remember itsa lot more laid back than any other form of racing you may have done! Good luck Jim

I'm totally surprised no one has a full roll cage. Imagine if a car rolled at those speeds. Still, pretty impressive those imports

I think texas mile requires a cage for anything over 170.

From the link above to the 2008 stats, the fastest runners were BIKES! Thats crazy in a car w/ a roll cage, but on a bike that just flat out insanity! God I love power sports!

My motorcycle will go 165-170 if I ever chose to take her that high.
2007 Honda CBR600RR with a few mods.
Only takes a few seconds to see 100.....few more for 125....few more for 145....you get the idea

I never said it wasn't cool, just insane! Truth be told I would love a bike, but I just cannot trust myself on it. I know I would click off speed limit shattering rates and I need to remove that tempation. For those of you with bikes, how do you fight it!

Hi Sgc,
I haven't changed my speed limiter on my Busa yet. I have only hit it once. I figured 185 is more than fast enough on a street bike..... I do enjoy drag racing it and just got a slipper clutch for it. It has run a 9.63 @ 154 on a 2.08 60 ft time. I know it'll go 8's and I think it should run over 225 in the mile. I need to get the computer remapped for the long haul..

First gear (stock sprockets), I reach redline of about 16,000 at 76 mph.
Control the urge to gun it everywhere by respecting the power, and knowing you'll be on the track soon. Track-days are the only way to push a sportbike nowadays. I will keep this bike for years to come, and it will be a long while before I can even use the bike at its full potential. That is when you upgrade.
Its scary fast, and you just need to keep that in mind when you twist the throttle for a bit of "FUN"
