MONTEREY, CA. (April 9, 2007)
– Concorso Italiano®,
the Celebration of Italian Style™ that opens the traditional
Monterey/Pebble Beach Weekend, will this year pay homage to Ferrari,
celebrating 60 years of this Italian sports car manufacturer, and
will honor iconic Italian designer Ugo Zagato (1890-1968) – The
Master of Light. Concorso Italiano® also will celebrate
50th Anniversary of the Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet and 250
California Spyder. Continuing the excitement, the Siata 8V and Fiat
8V’s will be featured: and the 35th Anniversary of the
Maserati 3500 GT will be honored together with the Reunion of the
Lamborghini Countach.
Expected to headline this stunning
gathering of luxurious Italian cars will be a jaw-dropping
collection of Siata 8V’s and Fiat 8V’s equaling what could be the
largest collection of these unique automobiles seen anywhere since
the 1960’s! “There is virtually no person who doesn’t like Siatas,
whether they own one or not!”
To add to the luster of Concorso Italiano’s
2007 Event is the return of their Fashion Show and Village. Expect
to see sophisticated Carmel clothiers bring their new Italian
fashion elements at the event,” says Jack Wadsworth, Chairman of
Concorso Italiano “Concorso will also welcome the return of it’s
popular Italian Tenor, Pasquale Esposito.”
This year’s primary honoree is the
iconic Enzo Ferrari’s Prancing Horse – Ferrari S.p.A. – Founded in
1947, Enzo drove the very first Ferrari, the 125 sport off the line
and thus founded this Maranello based Italian Sports car marque!
Ferrari is present in 52 markets worldwide and exports almost 90% of
the cars built at its sole production facility in Maranello. There
are 250 Ferrari dealerships worldwide, and since 2004, Ferrari has
launched several new markets, including China, Russia, Hungary &
Slovenia.
One of the most significant models
from Ferrari’s long history include the Ferrari GT California Spyder,
says, Wadsworth. “Designed for export to America, the 1957 250 GT
California Spyder was Scaglietti’s interpretation of an open-top 250
GT. About 45 were made before the aluminum-bodied racing versions
were replaced by the SWB version in 1960. It’s been reported that
some of these cars are worth in the neighborhood of 2-4 million
dollars.
“Released at Geneva in 1957, 250 GT Series
1 Cabriolet was originally designed by Pininfarina and had the
distinct bodywork from the Berlinetta.” Originally 36 examples were
produced. “Motor rend Classic named the 250 GT series I Cabriolet
and Coupe as number nine in their list of ten “Greatest Ferrari’s of
all time.””
The event will showcase a special exhibit of
Siata 8V’s and Fiat 8V’s. “Siata stands for Societa Italiana auto
Transformazioni Accessori, a small specialist firm in Turin that
made some of the most interesting cars in the world.
Ugo Zagato was known as the
MASTER OF LIGHT and world famous for his ultra light bodies, he
won the first four places in the 1000 mile Italian marathon known as
the Mille Miglia. “With body by Zagato” would become the
catch-phrase of a generation who wanted the latest in beautiful,
lightweight competition and grand touring cars.
In our Event Magazine, Concorso
Italiano will also feature the 35th Anniversary of the
Maserati 3500GT, a design of classic simplicity. The task before
Maserati was to design a fast, reliable road car like the
Granturismo that could be produced in larger numbers. It was this
strategy that was to change Maserati’s fortunes forever!
Also featured will be the House of Trident –
the Seven Maserati Brothers who founded Maserati S.p.A in 1926. “A
Maserati sports car is one of the few automobiles in the world that
immediately evokes images of wealth and prestige. You will come to
know the story of these famous brothers and how the trident came to
fruition as the symbol of their marque!
Concorso Italiano will feature approximately
1000 rare and beautiful examples of Italian coachwork and design
from Italy’s premier coachbuilders. A huge range of modern and
vintage models from Alfa Romeo, DeTomaso, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia,
Lamborghini, and Maserati, will be on display, along with vintage
racing machines and approximately 500 non-Italian feats of design.
The event also showcases other Italian modes of transportation,
including the hand-crafted Riva luxury yachts and speedboats.
Once again noted experts Tom duPont, founder
of duPont Publishing and publisher of duPont Registry of Fine
Automobiles and Alan Richmond of the Alan Richmond Company, will
emcee Concorso’s parade of vehicles. The two automotive experts will
share their expansive knowledge of each of the Italian vehicle
marques with the Concorso visitors, as representative vehicles are
driven across the ramp during the festivities.
Now in its 22nd
year, Concorso Italiano has evolved into a must-attend convergence
of sophistication, taste, and affluence, all amid the grand setting
of the Bayonet Black Horse Country Club in Monterey/Seaside, CA on
August 17, 2007. For additional information about the event, to
register a vehicle for display or to order advance tickets, visit
