Ribs and Rides at the Beach

What could be more fun than a day out in sunny Southern California?

Being out in the cobra, enjoying BBQ ribs and with friends new and old, that's what.  The get together was the brainchild of Norm and Laurie Judd and was attended by Cobras from Ventura to San Diego to Palm Desert. We met at Heeney Weenies BBQ on Beach Blvd. in the heart of Huntington Beach and had some of the best BBQ I've had outside of Alabama. 13 Cobras, 3 mustangs and one GT40 started arriving about 11AM with Norm and Laurie's and Steve Moriarity's Kermit (green FFR) first on the scene.  We had a strong contingent from San Diego but some local rain just before Oceanside kept all but one Cobra at home. Nels Prario braved the 3 minutes of rain to break out into broken clouds on the ride up and beautiful sunshine on the way home.  I arrived about 11 with Bob and Susan Farris in tow from Palm Desert.  Dave and his wife brought their big block Superformance in from San Clemente and Roger Stine from Mission Viejo brought the national famous Pizza Hut P'zone black carbon fiber FFR. Roger's car was featured in the latest round of Pizza Hut commercials after answering a call for an all black Cobra posted on the www.Cobraforum.com.

The Mustang crowd was represented by a GT500 KR convertible and two 65 mustangs. One by one we started taking over every empty parking space until all the parking in front of the restaurant was snake filled. An hour of bench racing ensued before packing Heeney's for some great ribs, BBQ sandwiches and good company. After lunch the rides began with the kids getting rides first, with one boy leaving in the blue Superformance.  I gave a 7 year old Elise and 10 year old Brian rides in my GT40 before having to make an early exit back to the desert. It was worth the drive just to see Elise's face totally beaming from the ride. Steve Moriarty even turned the keys for Kermit over to Avalanche for his own ride from the driver's seat! Jim Weatherford, Barry M., Forrest, and many others who I didn't mention made the event a success. A good time was had by all and can't wait until next time.
